Open Azulejo. Palácio da Calheta
Discover a space usually closed to the public and the tiles preserved there in situ.

The Open Azulejo. Palácio da Calheta project invites visitors to discover a space usually closed to the public and the tiles preserved there in situ, bringing them closer to the original settings in which azulejo was applied.
The visit begins with a timeline that briefly presents the history of azulejo in Portugal. From there, visitors follow different paths of discovery through the Palace, observing the tiles in the spaces they were made for, sometimes in dialogue with pieces from the Museu Nacional do Azulejo collection.
Rather than proposing a closed route, Open Azulejo seeks to encourage curiosity and observation. Each space reveals different stories, techniques and solutions, as well as the marks of time and of the transformations that buildings and their coverings have undergone.
Prices: €5.00 adult; €4.00 over 65; €2.50 students, ALUMNI and staff. With admission to the Tropical Botanical Garden: €8.00, €6.40 and €4.00, respectively. Free admission for children aged 2 to 10, visitors with disabilities and one companion, war veterans, and members of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, APOM and ICOM.
A partnership between the Museu Nacional do Azulejo / Museus e Monumentos de Portugal and the University of Lisbon.
Access is limited for visitors with reduced mobility due to the characteristics of the building.
